Downtown Cape Town

Downtown Cape Town is a mix of new modern office buildings and old Dutch forts with beautiful Table Mountain and its adjoining peaks in the background.
This beautiful British designed building overlooking the Dutch parade ground was a place from which Nelson Mandela gave his first public speech after being released from the prison on Robin's Island .
This nondescript structure was where the slaves were housed during the Dutch slaving days.
Cape Town is a wonderfully clean city with parks and wide avenues.
We were in Cape Town on Sunday. Not much traffic in downtown as everything was closed.
Cape Town is a culturally diverse city. Here are views of the Muslim section which has each house beautifully painted.
Unlike many cities, no one lives in downtown Cape Town, but within a few hundred yards of downtown many of the working population reside. Many of these homes come with beautiful views of the city center and the coast.
We only had one day in Cape Town as a result of our extended safari. One of the most popular attractions is the cable car ride up to the top of Table Mountain. Donna thought that she didn't need that ride. The small airplane which we took to and from Singita was enough for her for a while.
From anywhere in the city you can see these peaks. Table Mountain is on the left and that little box on the top is the terminus of the cable car.
Our guide, Mustura took us to the halfway point on table Mountain for a quick look.
Many of the local plants are only found in this part of South Africa
Cape Town is on the Atlantic Ocean which is cooled by the currents coming from Antarctica. There are several beautiful residential areas as you go east along the coast from Cape Town.
The coast east of Cape Town is lined with beautiful apartments and condominiums.

CAMPS BAY (OUR FAVORITE)

These are pictures of "Camps Bay". It is one of the few places outside of the United States that we felt we could live.
These are pictures of another area known as Clifton. it had everything Camps Bay had accept there was no sand beach. Not for us.
