We are making new friends
Tahiti is very beautiful from far away. But the city of Papeete, the commercial capital of French Polynesia, is a bustling city and not very exotic.
Before the Protestant missionaries came here the native religion involved a fair amount of sacrificial beheadings and some cannibalism. There's no question that the change constituted an improvement.
Big city life involves exotic appetites and America is there to serve (40 billion).
We opt for a less exotic French bistro. The seafood is fresh everyday. We are the only non-French speaking people. But what's new?
Although last week we had kosher chicken I don't think this would pass my rabbis inspection.
Ah, once more the Captain orders all hands on deck for an emergency barbecue.
They have some Filipinos on board who can carve anything.
Some of the sculpture is a little spooky.
Give Donna her cosmo and all is well.
The native women were friendly.
Sadly, so were the men. Next stop, Moorea. We are told it is a much more beautiful and exotic place.
