We are making new friends |
Tahiti is very beautiful from far
away. But the city of Papeete, the commercial capital of French Polynesia,
is a bustling city and not very exotic. |
Before the Protestant missionaries
came here the native religion involved a fair amount of sacrificial beheadings
and some cannibalism. There's no question that the change constituted
an improvement. |
Big city life involves
exotic appetites and America is there to serve (40 billion). |
We opt for a less exotic French bistro.
The seafood is fresh everyday. We are the only non-French speaking people.
But what's new? |
Although last week we had kosher
chicken I don't think this would pass my rabbis inspection. |
Ah, once more the Captain
orders all hands on deck for an emergency barbecue. |
They have some Filipinos on board
who can carve anything. |
Some of the sculpture is a little
spooky. |
Give Donna her cosmo
and all is well. |
The native women were friendly. |
Sadly, so were the men. Next stop,
Moorea. We are told it is a much more beautiful and exotic place. |
