Donna and I couldn't put our finger on it, but we liked Guam. It was a lot like the US and we felt like we were at home. The Kmart didn't hurt. It was a shame we had such a short time for our visit. I would have loved to stay a couple of days and been able to check out the beaches and the duty-free shopping more extensively.
Our dinner companions 2 night's before arriving in Guam were Richard, Sandra, Judy and Loren.
The shipboard entertainment for a few nights was a group of opera singers known as the Dragon Tenors. The Opera buffs on board went mad.
This section of the trip, which crosses the equator, is verrrry hot. There are few sun bathers willing to deal with it on this segment.
In spite of the heat, Donna is cold. What's new?
Guam at dawn. Security was very tight in Guam. The ship went through three hours of immigration and customs procedures, allowing us a full three-hours for our visit. Yep!!! You can't make this stuff up.
Sunrise over the island of Guam was breathtaking.
Here is Scott Williams, the previous night's comedian/magician giving Donna a hug just before his return to Australia. The night before Scott had Donna assist him in some magic on stage. It was one of the rare times I left my the camera in the room. OOOPS! No photographic record of her 15 seconds of fame.
The place looks just like the United States, but with much better weather (except for the recent 48 hour-180 mph hurricane).
Many of the hotels were American brands. On the left is the Hilton and the right is the Marriott, between them are condominiums.
Many of these luxury accommodations front on the beautiful beach.
When we first got to Guam I noticed there were many buildings which had exteriors in need of much repair. Of course our 1st stop was at the Kmart. The exterior was a mess. Having just come from Papua New Guinea, we at first thought it was just poor maintenance. We soon after learned that about a month ago this island endured a 180 mph hurricane which devastated the island. What do they say about first impressions?
This is the bus to the Kmart.

There were many malls, both up-scale and ones that I was familiar with. You could buy anything here from Gucci to Wendy's.

Donna taking a break from the grueling shopping at Kmart.
Only in America
We could see this beautiful cliff from the main road.
The main beach in town which is adjacent to the better shopping is quite nice.
Donna and I stopped at the Marriott Hotel. These pictures were taken from their beach bar. The structure at the left is set up for beachfront weddings. How romantic.
What a difference between this place and Papua New Guinea. They are not physically that far apart by Pacific Ocean standards.
Guess who!!!
Donna finally having an intelligent conversation about dieting with a real expert on eating like a bird.
The hurricane which came here about a month ago was so ferocious it tore the leaves off most of the palm trees.
She's losing it!

Me on the other hand am already a legend!

Donna soon after returning is again throwing back several skim milk decaf cappuccinos with some folks who opted for more effective libations.
Guam as we sail away in the early afternoon.
